Sterilized Substrate

Our mushroom substrate is our featured product and is our specialty!  We have three varieties of substrate and they come in four pound 6 mil thick bags with 2 mcg patches that are sterilized in our commercial autoclave.  They are sterilized for three hours at 17 psi to kill any pathogens that may be present.  What makes our product different is that they are impulse sealed BEFORE going in the autoclave which has an intermittent automatic pressure release while sterilizing.  The bags are purged of air before sealing and heat resistant tape is used to secure the bag from flapping anywhere.  The myth of exploding bags is just that, a myth if done expertly and stacked with the filter patch up in offset rows so gas and steam is released through the filter.  

Note: This technique is not recommended with most home stove top sterilizers, nor in autoclaves unless proper technique has been taught or your bags will explode.  This method prevents the bags from “sucking in contaminated air” when sealing or when removed from the autoclave.

Varieties Available:

• 4 lb bags of CVG++ Horse Manure Substrate for Grass Lover’s: this is our best substrate and works great for all dung loving and medicinal mushrooms, especially grass loving species.  Our CVG++ Concentrated Horse Manure substrate is hydrated to a little over field capacity and is made with shredded coco coir, extra concentrated powdered horse manure, vermiculite, gypsum, and our proprietary blend of micronutrients.  We highly recommend using Dr. Myc’s MGP+ in the recommended amounts to increase yields and greatly cut down on the risk of Trichoderma and other contaminants.  We can tell you that based on personal experience, it makes a difference!

• 4 lb bags of Gourmet Wood Lover’s Substrate: this substrate is perfect for all wood loving species.  Our gourmet wood lover’s substrate is hydrated to field capacity and is made with approximately 80% oak pellets, 20% hard maple pellets, vermiculite, gypsum, and our proprietary blend of micronutrients.  We find this substrate to be superior to the Master’s Mix which is great for first flushes with a slightly higher yield for the first flush but very inefficient for subsequent flushes resulting in a lower overall yield.  We highly recommend using Dr. Myc’s MGP+ in the recommended amounts to increase yields and greatly cut down on the risk of Trichoderma and other contaminants.  We can tell you that based on personal experience, it makes a difference!
