Our six pound blocks of colonized mushroom spawn and substrate have been grown from agar cultures that were clones of our most impressive mushrooms that we have grown. To get to this stage, some are F3 though F5 isolates that took lots of time and patience to get the amazing specimens that we now grow. Expect rigorous growth and beautiful mushrooms to grow from these blocks. It is recommended that you fruit these blocks in a grow tent with proper fresh air exchange, temperature, and humidity levels recommended for the species. It is highly recommended that you side fruit the Oyster mushrooms and Lion’s Mane. The Chestnut and Pioppino mushrooms benefit greatly from being in a grow tent with a casing layer added on top to fruit properly. Shiitake mushrooms can take months to fruit and have specific requirements and are recommended only for experienced growers.
You can use the bags to fruit directly, colonize other beds, inoculate logs (wood spawn only), etc.

Important Note: These bags are made using four pounds of spawn (either wood or grain depending on the species) with 2 lbs of colonized grain or 2 lbs of inoculated wood spawn. It is possible it will weigh less if you order something like a Shiitake block that has already colonized and entered the “browning” stage where it is ready to be dunked and fruited. The only reason it would be lighter is due to loss of water content as is what happens in certain species but has no effect on the viability or the starting weight. Once you hydrate a Shiitake block, it will certainly weigh much more unless you have one sent to you that is just starting to colonize.
Availability: All varieties are not always available but most can be made custom to order; however, these orders can take 2-3 weeks to produce. Please email midwestfreshmushrooms@gmail.com for custom order requests if availability on the page is set at 0.
Special Note: You have two weeks from receipt to show any signs of contamination to be eligible for a refund or replacement (see Return and Replacement Policy). Bags cannot be opened during this period to receive a refund, as we have no way of verifying sterile technique has been followed once opened to fruit. Bags must also be stored in a clean environment as specified in the insert included with the order. Be sure to take a photo of the impulse seal and filter both intact.
